Master the professional packing standards used by Scottish removals crews to guarantee zero breakage during transit.
The Golden Rules of Box Packing: The "H-Tape" Method
Never interlock cardboard box flaps like a jigsawβthis provides zero structural support and causes box bottoms to collapse under the weight of books or kitchenware. Apply high-tensile 50mm vinyl packing tape along the center seam and crosswise along both edges (forming an 'H' shape) on both the bottom and top of every carton.
- Place heaviest items at the bottom of the box (books, canned goods) and lighter items on top (linens, cushions).
- Never pack a box heavier than 20kg so it can be handled safely without tearing handles or straining backs.
- Fill every hollow void inside boxes with packing paper or bubble wrap to prevent internal shifting.
Protecting Large 65"+ TVs, Mirrors, and Glass Tabletops
Modern ultra-thin LED and OLED screens are susceptible to pressure cracks if laid flat. TVs must always be transported upright. Wrap the screen in protective anti-scratch foam wrap, followed by heavy-duty double-wall corrugated cardboard or a telescoping TV carton. Mirrors and framed artwork should have cardboard corner protectors fitted before being wrapped in bubble wrap.
- β Dismantle bed frames and tape all hardware (screws, bolts, dowels) inside a labeled ziplock bag taped to the headboard.
- β Use heavy-duty quilted furniture blankets over polished wood surfaces before applying shrink wrap (never apply plastic wrap directly to polished wood).
- β Clearly mark boxes containing glassware or porcelain with bold red "FRAGILE" tape on all four sides.
